In grade 4 guitar, pieces are up to 8 bars in length. In addition to the key and time signatures from grade 3 are A Major and 6/8. Use of the 2nd position continues and simple two-part writing is introduced, along with pause signs, ties and first chromatic notes.

Tips for Grade 4 Guitar Sight Reading

  • Get situated with your guitar where you can comfortably see the exercise (an iPad or other tablet is especially convenient for this, as you can set it right on your music stand; print this page if needed)

  • Once you've started, keep going no matter what – learning not to stop even when you make a mistake is one of the most important skills in guitar sight reading
