As you move to grade 6 of violin sight reading, you will be sight reading 12–16 bars pieces. The time and key signatures remain as in grade 5, but 9/8, 5/4, 5/8 and C# Minor will be added. E (e’’’) will be continue to be the highest note encountered. There will be further use of chords, and a slowing of tempo (followed by an a tempo) and triplet rhythms will be introduced.

Tips for Grade 6 Violin Sight Reading
- Get situated with your violin where you can comfortably see the piece (an iPad or other tablet is especially convenient for this, as you can set it right on your music stand; print this page if needed)
- Take 30 seconds to look over the piece before you attempt to sight read it
- Once you've started, keep going no matter what – learning not to stop even when you make a mistake is one of the most important skills in violin sight reading
